Numafung in 23rd edition of Cinemandu
Embassy of India and B.P. Koirala India-Nepal Foundation organized 23rd edition of Cinemandu on Friday, February 27, 2015 at Nepal-Bharat Library, Nepal Airlines Building, New Road.
This edition of Cinemandu screened critically acclaimed Nepalese feature film Numafung. Directed by Nabin Subba and produced by Padam Subba, Numafung (a beautiful flower in Limbu language) is a film about Limbu tradition and culture.
Released in 2004, Numafung is one of those few films in Nepal, which was screened in many international film festivals around the world.
Director Nabin Subba, producer Padam Subba and actor Raj Thapa joined the screening of the film.
After the screening of the film, the crew of Numafung engaged in interaction with the audience.
Director Nabin Subba shared, “We were done with the making of this movie in 2002 itself and released it in Nepal in 2004. Back then, Nepal was neither a secular nor an inclusive nation. At one hand there was this political instability and the other hand we were trying to break the notion that only cosmetic faces can act on screen. We also wanted to express there are so many communities in our society who are easily overlooked or ignored. With Numafung, we succeeded largely in breaking the stereotypes.”
Secretary of B.P. Koirala India-Nepal Foundation, Abhay Kumar presented the token of appreciation to crew members and shared, “This is the 23rd film we screened in Cinemandu today. I have to admit, Numafung is one of the best movies we have had in Cinemandu so far. The movie is extremely poetic and creatively succeeds to hit the right chords of emotions, connecting to every audience. I am also happy to inform this that in our 25th edition of Cinemandu in April, we will select a best film among the 24 we will have screened by then, and will re-screen the one declared the best film.”
